Jean Neige has proven himself especially adept at calming Marie Therese, which will earn him the endless affection and thankfulness of the queen. She summons Jon into royal apartment and privately informs him of her gratefulness-- Marie Therese is a famously difficult child-- and that she will pay Dany's dowry in full as a token of her gratitude. The king is present during this, and gives his ascent. The entire thing is very official, and goes on as though the royals are not prisoners within their own palace as Paris spins out of control not a mile away.

The idea that the locksmith might be a spy has clearly never occurred to Lafayette, but he's incredibly wary about this possibility. He assigns Jon a special mission: tail the locksmith, don't be noticed.
